A Poem by sea lily

last night
i saw the flash of their faces,
and flailing bodies.
watched us as
we threw out our calves
in camaraderie.
he introduced himself,
without a name.
we danced then
in the sweat-soaked shame
of the animated dead.
we, the lonely.
lost in the vast corpse sea.
i couldn't feel a thing
not even his tongue in my mouth.
couldn't see his face in the dark
when the dancing was done.
and i thought--
i have finally grown
completely numb.

It's spare--as befits the "completely numb"--but far from incomplete, and there are some marvelously turned phrases. It's always enjoyable to watch a first-rate mind at work.

I would take you to an ocean, in the sunshine, and sit you there until your soul was happy to be alive...
