for cathy

for cathy

A Poem by sea lily

the full moon entered our memory's tomb
shone against your childhood etchings
with sleepsore eyes i found your bed.
the dirt stung and tore at my fingernails, they bled
and mingled with the deadened soil.
then with human iron in my scarred palms,
i let the moonlight in.
i caressed one rotting cheek, and kissed your caved-in lips
and wept into your empty sockets.
twisted your wiry curls around my fists.
if i had dug further still to find your mind,
the part that could never prefer me
remove it, my labourer's hands
working delicately.
pluck the part that longed for him,
your insistence, our embraces were merely
brotherly.

i fancied your long-dead heart, shrivelled beneath your breast
still pulsed warmly for my ears.
beat my head against your shoulder-bone.
whispered; "you're home."

Once again I am moved. It is so rare to find a writer who offers me new things, visions and emotions common to us but so often left buried.

Thank you so much for mining into these deeper things. Be careful :-)

Love and blessings to you.
