Love For A Friend

Love For A Friend

A Poem by sea lily

for the sake,
of a sister-friend
we ran into tides
and filled out our dresses
and wondered about love together.
for a skinny, wasted girl
whose smile was brighter
than holiday's eyes.
i believed they were brighter
than the shining constellations
we observed in pairs
through the city fog.
when the wind blew through our hair...
for her i do this;
viva anna regina!
we bow to your reign.
no pretty neck laid out on a block
just population
submission.
from eight years old we grew in blood,
and bonded beyond petty grievance,
for you,
sister whose innocence resides
in the memory, in the mind.
so i try.
difficult, some witticism, sarcasm,
degrade my love and trumpet
a baser state
of what my life has been.
forced cohabitation retains a sense
of self-sacrifice,
of wounded pride.

during this, he says,
i'm tied up in knots
so i guess you must have been a boy scout
dutifully hiding me away inside.
