smother

smother

A Poem by sea lily

oh suffocating, freeing crescendo
dead man crooning to
this girl who is dying so slowly.
who steals and strips those
that pierce the labyrinthine depths
of her shadowed mind.
simply existing to exact demands
that nobody can fulfil.
a corpse puppeteered by life's
domineering strings.
close your eyes
sink into these fresh sheets
those white parachutes
you change as quickly
as those who inhabited them
once with you.
bury your bare head in them, an emblem
of mistaken identity.
while the world continues to breathe
your weary eyes wishing to sleep
your lungs resisting the final gasp
traitors to the last.
he does not want you, let it go
she never wanted you... so let go
cease scratching at your prison, this shell
gutted through sheer nihilism
and neglect.
smother me with sleep
with sweet cotton caresses
my head never to raise unwillingly
from their creamy depths.
those elusive fingertips
that beckon across the void
eternal promises
that make me falter
through the deepest winter
through the shattering cold.

Sorry but I don't really get it. This poem sounds so good, well-phrased and resounding. But there's something so deep in it--like a message hidden excellently--that I couldn't quite grasp. One moment, I thought I already understood it but it would occur to me that I actually didn't. I read it over and over again because I really do admire the way you wrote it. It's filled with metaphors and ironies. In the first line alone, you described crescendo as both suffocating and freeing which is ironic. I would even guess that the crescendo here is not literally a crescendo but a metaphor of something else. Unless I'm wrong, that is. Anyway, I'd just like to say that you have a brilliant way with words. Smother is a poem made with excellent writing style, and oozing with sad and tragic feel to it. Good Job.

Keep Writing. ^___^
