father

father

A Poem by sea lily

the bike in the kitchen and he's here
my brother's in earnest, his father is here
my mother's too joyful, her lover is here
and i'm just content; he's here, he's here.

the coffee and sugar on the worktop
two shapes in my mother's single bed
cigarette scent wafting through the hallway
a tousled figure hunched over a keyboard.

i love him for who he's becoming
i'm forgetting the who that he was
two suitcases next to the hallstand
a man in a blue flannel dressing gown.

together they're all teeming happiness
embraces in kitchens, in hallways, outside
i don't feel envy, i just love and i love
and i renew my faith in love itself.
