brothers

brothers

A Poem by sea lily

young girl,
absent father,
my mother said;
'you never got any attention
as a child.'
a reckless teen.
and now i've found
the boys i meet
are so good to me,
the ones who found me on the way.
they're big and strong
with callused hands
that stroke my hair
and hold my hand.
i lean my head on their shoulders
at the end of another night...
and they're all so young
and beautiful.
we don't fall in love
don't tarnish it with jealousy.
they're the brothers i wanted
when i was crying
and walking home alone
over another broken affair.
they're the arms i wanted
when my father was on the other side of the world
and didn't seem to care.
