Light Reigns

She is a being
of flesh and bones

sunken into the shadows,
    the belongings of a beast.

His fist clenched
     around her heart.

Fingers gripping
     into her lungs.

Breath seeping
     into her wounds.

Stitched together

hope and terror,
dreams and desperation,
joy and pain,

as one.

but when the sunlight speaks her name,
she lifts her head in greeting.

recognize the light.
maybe the seams will break.
