Two Hundred and Sixty-Five

Two Hundred and Sixty-Five

A Poem by Nicole
"

You don't know what people are going through. Please. It's never "just one comment." It's "just one more."

"

One, two, three, four...

Words drop out upon the floor.

“Let’s play a joke, it will be fun.”

Twenty-nine and thirty-one...

You locked the target for your jest.

Fifty-one, to fifty-six...

“It’s all in fun; there’s no harm meant.”

Ninety-seven, and one cent...

You walked away without a thought,

One-ninety-nine, two hundred wrought...

Did you ever stop and think,

She was already upon the brink?

That her wrists were bleeding as she walked by?

She was counting scars;

“Two-sixty-five...”
