I Awoke From My Dreams

I Awoke From My Dreams

A Poem by Miss Shea

I awoke from my dreams

When reality slipped inside
I stepped out of yesterday

Only to begin it again

Standing in the shadow

Of my tomorrow

Forever afraid of what it brings

Not ready to face it

And given no choice

But to trudge forward

Or stand still

Faking my way because

I have no real past to push me forward

And no future to pull me along...

Leaving me chained, stranding me here

To watch time pass me by

While I dumbly wonder why

I still can’t seem to step up

Stand up, take over my life

Why I just tiptoe through it

Taking no chances

But risking more

Losing more

And feeling less

Distancing myself

As hurt sinks in

Realizing that childhood

Has to end when reality settles in

Breaking blissful ignorance

Corrupting the imaginary universe

I created just yesterday...
