The Water

The Water

A Poem by Miss Shea

The water

Its poison

And will soon take my life

Deep down under

The surface close,

But, no

I will not go

Where there is air

Because here

Is where I’m safe

But you will never understand…

Not this…my voluntary surrender

To the watery depths

And water will fill my lungs

Painful pleasure…

Like no other

Can you see?

The beauty in this place,

The passion beneath the surface…

The surface of sleep

The fine line between imagination

And dream-like reality

The self-imposed delusions

Fantasies of my life

Intertwined with reality

Altered by my perception

Incomprehensive to all who dare

To venture in my mind

And rediscover me

Beneath the surface

Where I hide

In the water

For all of time

I really like "The water / is poison".

I feel like that could be a poem in itself. Especially since if someone were to say to you "The water / is poison", they would probably have learned that by drinking it, and are probably dying. It's a really loaded set of lines.
