Losing a Friend

Losing a Friend

A Poem by Scrap
"

Still in disbelief

"

The hopeful travel
Towards the horizon
The further one goes
The farther it fades

Hands reach out
Feeling no touch
Sinking thoughts
While heart's yet afloat

Giving up is not an option
Trying is the only truth
Until stopped by torrent waves
Anchoring one submissively

My friend, oh so dear
In the end I was fighting you for you
I am no match for selfishness
It is a whirlpool, strong

I must have come into your life for a reason
I pray I did well
Now as you turn your back on me
I drown...
never to trust again.

"My friend, oh so dear
In the end I was fighting you for you
I am no match for selfishness
It is a whirlpool, strong"

That stanza is so powerful. The image in my mind when reading is the two of you fighting but not out of anger... you fighting hoping he will find strength from your strength and your desire for your friend to pull away from that darkness that consumes the mind. Powerful write Scrap and full of raw emotion. I believe we cross paths for a reason... we come into someone's life for many reasons unknown and although the feeling is that this friend turned their back on you and left you alone you grow from the experience. It hurts, it's extremely painful to think that someone we care about would rather not be at all but sometimes what we see and what we know in a person is only part of who they are and we don't get to see what constantly eats away at the heart and the mind. Thanks for opening up and sharing this write. Honestly, it's been open in my browser with a few other writes and I've just not looked at anything for weeks. I'm glad this is one I was able to read and comment on :)

"Hands reach out
Feeling no touch"

I think everyone can relate to this in some manner. I told a friend recently that I believe that we come into people's lives at a certain time for a specific reason, sometimes we just don't know what that reason might be.

this is very sad...i think of friendships of mine...some that have now lasted 50 years or so...ones more than 30 and then those that eventually died because it was a one-way street...and sooner or later...when those turn their backs on us, we have to turn away ourselves.

you've expressed your distress well in this sad poem, scrap. but life does go on, even if it is a cliche.
life has so much to offer when one is still young.
wise words from an old man haha
