trusting lionsA Poem by Scout Ventures
We can smell it now and we tighten our legs
That bitter scent that demands our fear every steap in the darkness takes Is another steap less before it's here. The beast that stalks the young and old The heart of stone inside It festoons a coat of gleaming gold Lives souly for the pride. It slows before our huddled forms it will snarl just to say i could bring you worse than harm There's no chance you'd get away. All the fear they hover over us They dont come into the light Every breath we take is a hush We await the painful bite. But then it's odd The strangest one They slowly come out of the fog That pain it never comes. Who are you beast? Who indeed? This ones very small infact it look to be the very least And mean no harm at all. We feel no fear So up we stand Hearts unsure but upward ears Old feelings stir now that they're here. Just a boy a human boy alone as one can be standing up beside the cage eyes full of love instead of his fathers rage we understand and make no sound the boy can not be seen He reaches forword slowly very carefully Then takes a hold of iron bar And pulls onen wide and far The day boy trusted lions was the day he set us free.
