Light up my World

Light up my World

A Poem by Nicole Pilar
"

Open the door, open my eyes, leave nothing undone, leave no surprise

"

Walk into my world

Take a look around

Put your hands all over me

Leave, don’t make a sound

Don’t lock the door behind you

It’s really all I ask

If you did how could I be sure

Someone new would finish the breaking task

Leave things the way you found them

Broken, locked, and shut

If I wanted it fixed, I’d fix it

So take the wanted, but

Try to remember the look I gave

When I heard you turn the knob

My body still sticking to the sheets

Or the things I let you rob

My innocence

My faith

My hope for a new day

The reputation that once I had

The morals you led astray

You know the funny thing

Is that I don’t regret

That night in my beaten down apartment

By the room where my mother slept

You darkened my world so much

But then how did you turn on that light?

To places I never knew of

Where I could watch the fire ignite

So many new people came onto the scene

Because of your midnight pride

I may not have known what I signed up for

I still can’t stop the ride

I remember that sweet girl, Candy

Her friend named Mary Jane

They sort of make you dizzy

Even though they seem to end the pain

We bought lots of juice

That sure could make you laugh

The exact jokes are pretty foggy

Mixing them with your new friends…you just do the math

Your friends ran out quickly

I couldn’t stand to see them go

You really start to miss them

Life becomes too slow

They get expensive to get back

But I needed to see them now

I found the way to make money

Remember you showed me how?

The night you first brought me

Into this world they kept hid

Just like the men I met in shadows

Like you, they liked what I did

There wasn’t that many of them

I can easily count up half

Maybe some wouldn’t understand it

But your friends I had to have

I saw you just the other day

You couldn’t seem to place

The girl so changed before you

The name wouldn’t go with the face

You seemed so surprised to learn

That it was really me

The tiny girl left wrapped in sheets

A few days after she turned thirteen

You thought with you it ended

But there was so much left unfurled

My ride still isn’t over

So light up my world baby, light up my world
