Nimble Winter

Nimble Winter

A Poem by Mike; The Lone Maverick
"

This is about the quick changing seasons and how it renders the immune system in disarray.

"

“Nimble Winter”

When summer elongated, leaves
Dropped slowly like dew from a maple
Tree, I celebrated in a modest fashion
I was waltzing in the October Indian sun

Then the hurricane of fall breezed by
I felt its autumnal winds stalking me
Gliding me upward like a feather—
For the first time, I felt carefree

Now winter finally appears, so nimble
I feel so disoriented, my routine in dismay
My bullish white blood cells crystallizing
Rendering my immune system into a cave

Meaning any viral infection can invade
My temple, desecrating its frame, pervading
All five of my strong, resilient senses like the plague
Annihilated three million people in early Europe

Resulting in people paying homage
To my sickness by attending the Danse Macabre
Dance where flogging is rampant, then as
An appropriate closing, massive suicide

Leave it to the fluctuating weather
To dismantle the circadian rhythms
Of millions in its crosshairs, winter
Especially coming so nimbly, shocking
Everyone virally like AIDS in the eighties
