When The Clock Strikes Twelve

When The Clock Strikes Twelve

A Poem by Mike; The Lone Maverick
"

This poem is about life being at the helms of a clock.

"

“When the Clock Strikes Twelve”

When the clock strikes twelve
Dreams are rendered failures
Relationships are broken, because
One of the partners left into the arms

Of someone else, leaving the loyal
Partner alone chasing subway suicides
Seceding every hope he had to the train
Ride to his final resting place, her cold arms

When the clock strikes twelve
Trouble brews like a stale beer
Just when you held something so
Dear, it’s stolen from you in an instant

Your wife leaves you, life
Eludes from you like a diamond
Sadly slipping from your grasp, you
Children no longer recognize that

You sired their crybaby bodies

When the clock strikes twelve—
The cynical crows wait outside
Your window laughing at your
Mistakes, mishaps, waiting for

The time when you die
So that your body parts
Become dinner for a week
Thus the cycle of life….

Reality transmigrates to South America
When the clock strikes twelve, ones
Nightmarish visions come into fruition
The lowest common denominator becomes—

The equation of choice at dusk
Bombs light up cities, apocalypse
Happens in a blink of an emerald eye
When the clock strikes twelve

Be wary of that sullen watchtower
Because death swaths with a clock ticking
