Looking in the MirrorA Poem by Scarlett RaeA girl trying to fit in before finding her place
Looking in the mirror
clear as day, I see myself standing there, expressionless. Ready for my life I'm dressed up, my mask is on securely. Walking with care, trying to be normal, thinking, my every move determines what I'll be, and if I'll make it in this unusual world. City streets, television, my surroundings all conveyed the image I "wanted" to be. Defenseless, I fell for it. The styles were popular and desired by many. Seemingly different, I still tried. A slippery slope many fell in and got lost. Abnormal of course, I fought with every muscle and fingernails too and I got out of the crowd. Wandering lost, while still dark a hand pushed me right, strangely now among a new crowd. People cheering and joking, drinking and smoking, all good fun was here. I didn't, couldn't question for I just knew I was meant to be here. Newly awakened, I studied, each person so different, all unique and proud of it; these hitchhikers took me in. Never worried, nor scared but living the way I should. Each day treasured and spent in beautiful new ways. The days collided, only eternity mattered. I look in the mirror ans see a happy girl with memories you wouldn't believe. I did what I wanted and spent each second as its always my last. © 2015 Scarlett Rae |
