Stepfather

Stepfather

A Poem by Scarlett Secret

Mother has no clue

She still thinks that he is grand

Not a soul but mine knows what is true

My brother is dead at his hand

It was a cold foggy night

They had gone swimming by the dock

It was a horrible sight

To see my brother sinking under that rock

He had cried to my mother

I tried to save him, but he is lost

Is the death of my older brother

really what Mother's fortune will cost?

His putrid son is next at line

Which was the purpose of his crime

Now that my brother is in the brine

I feel as if I am running out of time

Mother serves dinner and we sit

He smiles a menacing grin

Am I the only one that sees it?

Is he really going to win?

We act as if nothing is wrong

Yet the scene still plays in my mind

The dishes are clean, Mother moves along

But his breathing I hear from behind

He moves closer still

My heart beats fast

I'm frozen against my will

I fear my life will not last

I know what you have done

His face comes to my ear

He prevents me from trying to run

He whispers, you're next my dear
