Michigan Ave at ChristmastimeA Poem by Mason VailEvery Christmas, I find myself aching to visit Chicago and walk the main downtown shopping streets to see the decorations and window displays.Anticipation
Chicago skyline at dusk distorted by foggy car windows
Quiet elevator ride to street level opens to cacophony
Engines, Lights, People and Wind
always wind
Wind that takes your breath away and makes you feel alive
Lights and decorations everywhere Lampposts become magical in spirals of lit garland
Dad's hand and voice herding his wandering offspring eyes wide fingers pointing
Scenes of winter wonder shining in every storefront captivating inviting
Driven inside to get warm Perfume counter smells mingle with favorite holiday music
Where is the bookstore? traditional destinations allowances carefully saved for this day
Frozen Delighted Utterly happy
Michigan Avenue at Christmastime
Warm, sleepy ride home smiling
