in praise of a short-lived online community

The stocks did not move
no IPO in play
My net worth immobile
languishing all that day

Then I clicked on a link
How that link made me blink!

I looked and I saw it
right there on my screen
I looked and I saw it
a Forum so keen!

And all I could do
was to read through it all
every post, every thread
some quite large, others small

Some were thoughtful and witty
with points well laid out
while others lacked purpose
or were riddled with doubt

All ages there were
from pubescent grade schoolers
to sagely old llamas
and geezers and droolers

All gathered together
to join in debate
using logic and reason,
never insults and hate

Except when they do
for sometimes it is true...

Sometimes there is bickering
insult and libel
'tween hot-tempered posters
and their chief arch-rivals

'Tis all in good fun though
I'm sure you'd admit
though some days there'll be someone
you'd just like to hit

But that's not why we come here
We come for the fun stuff:
The learning! The dialogue!
(even if oft rough)

Why just yesterday I learned
ficord can spell
if he's startled enough
to exclaim What the hell???

and Dave Hartley is willing
(this fills me with mirth)
to exploit a code bug,
greatly raising his worth

Oh, not that I blame him,
The bug is so wrong
and he's been due some justice
from another long gone

and elder g-p-m
is seems gets quite toasted
as shown by a strange
little post that he posted

and cailen and Yog
are both such fun to watch
as they try to stay civil
'stead of kicking some crotch
as the rest of us "lusers"
give them ample excuses
to bend us right over
and kick our cabooses

Somewhere in it all
we still find time to trade
and to read lots of sci/tech
and talk of trades made

And as long as I come here
(forgive, if I sob)
I'll enjoy this community
'til we all lose our jobs.
