the joy of poetry

the joy of poetry

A Poem by Mason Vail

Originally written in a forum where a poetry thread had been started. Apologies to Dr. Seuss.

"

On Tuesday, quite early,
I plopped at my desk,
my head full of cobwebs,
eyes blurry from rest.

When what should appear
in a forum I follow,
but a thread just for poems,
a place I can wallow!

My words I can bandy
with wanton abandon.
Vocab thrown about,
grammar flaunted, made random.

(Though spelling, I feel
one must never throw out,
lest we all be come savages,
riddled with doubt.

Unless one feels strongly
a rhyme justifies it
and then you are welcome
to do what feels righzit.

Like rappers who make up
whatever word suits them
until an archrival
drives by and whacks (shoots) 'em)

But always we temper

our licence with reason,

carefully focusing

efforts on pleasin'.

Some choose to write limricks,

a form quite amusing,

while others write sonnets,

their intellects bruising.

Add in some haiku

(you must know this is true)

and there's something for everyone here,

even YOU!
