Chapter 2

A Chapter by Sydney.

Aiden blinked heavily and looked around before the stranger walked the other direction.

“Shadow Town?” He asked himself before slowly walking around the city. Everyone seemed so cheerful and loud. Aiden was in awe.

After maybe fifteen minutes of looking around, Aiden plopped down on a nearby bench and sighed.

“So what now?” He mumbled aloud and sighed again. The sun was extremely bright and seemed to be staying the in the same place. They’re were tall buildings and small shops everywhere. It seemed like everyone knew everyone. It all seemed so weird to Aiden. No one around had a frown on their face or seemed just a tad bit off from pleasant. Everyone was happy.

Aiden looked around and sighed again. He dropped his head and began to murmur to himself.

“Ok, so the girl is real, the note is real, what’s next?”

Then someone tapped the top of his head. He reluctantly looked up and almost jumped back when his eyes locked onto the little girl that had tapped him. Her eyes were chocolate brown and she had the most adorable look on her face. Aiden’s wide eyes blinked and stayed glued onto hers. The little girl slowly let a smile crawl onto her mouth and she spoke, “WELL, HIIIIIIIIIII!”

She grabbed Aiden by his neck roughly and forced him into a tight embrace. Aiden immediately began to protest. She pushed him back up against the bench and pouted.

Seeing the little girl pout made Aiden’s stomach flutter for some reason. He sighed for what seemed like the hundredth time and hugged the little girl. The girl smiled and squeezed his waist. Before he could think about anything, the girl pulled him down to her eye level by his wrist. Aiden stumbled before falling onto his but and frowning hard.

“We don’t frown in this town mister!” The girl said before stomping her foot in a serious manner, shaking her black bangs into her eyes.

Aiden looked confused. The girl stared at him harder and Aiden finally gave in. He flashed a fake smile and was relieved when the girl smiled back at him.

“I’m Sara! What’s your name?” The girl said with wide eyes

“Uh, Aiden. What do you want?”

“That’s such a cute name! Who gave you that name?” Sara exclaimed.

“My mom! Now what do you want?”

“Is your mom pretty? And where’s your dad?” Sara asked, completely ignoring Aiden’s demand.

Aiden grunted in frustration and got up. He brushed himself off and began to walk away from the girl. She wasn’t going to help him figure anything out and she was already starting to get on his nerves. Sara stood there for a minute and watched Aiden walk away before she ran to catch up with him. She ran in front of him and threw her arms out, as if to try and stop him. “You can’t just leave! Daddy said to come and pick you up,”

Aiden stopped walking and eyed Sara. Her dad told her to come and pick him up? He stared at her, with eyes full of anger. He rolled his eyes and pushed past Sara.

Sara shook her head and shouted after him, “You have to come back with us, the pretty blue haired girl said to!”

Aiden stopped walking and froze. The blue haired girl? The blue haired girl! The one that he saw earlier and the one that gave him the note. He slowly turned around to face Sara. She was panting and her hands were in fists. He thought about his other choices. He could walk away and have to figure things out on his own or he could trust the little girl that obviously had met the blue haired one. With a deep and long sigh, Aiden began to walk back over toward Sara. Sara’s eyes lit up and she began to jump up and down.

The walk back to Sara’s house was full of giggles and long stories that Aiden was barely listening to. When they got to Sara’s house, Aiden looked around. It was a bookshop. For a minute Aiden thought that the little girl had been lying but then she called him inside. He climbed two flights of steps and walked down a long hallway. Sara told him to wait outside of a room while she went to go get her father. Aiden nodded and sat down a stool and took a deep breath. He wasn’t feeling it now but he was sure that realization of everything would hit him sooner or later.

Her heard a thump and jumped in his heat. He looked around the corner but didn’t see anything. He began to stand up when Sara came back out of the room. A man was following behind her and Aiden held his breath.

Sara skipped over to Aiden and smiled brightly, “This is daddy.”

The man looked about in his thirties or so and he had brown hair that seemed to just lay anywhere on his head. He wore glasses and had a faint frown on his lips. Aiden was frozen. It was like he was having déjà vu. His head begin to spin but he couldn’t keep his eyes off of the man. He knew this man from somewhere but he couldn’t remember where. His head began to feel light, like he was floating. His vision blurred in and out and before he knew it, he had passed out.

He woke up feeling like someone had just smashed a glass bottle up against his head. He rubbed his forehead and looked around. The moon was out and the room was dark. He laid his head back down and rolled over on his side so that he was facing the door. He heard the doorknob turn and sat up, preparing himself for whoever was about to come in.

The man came in slowly and stood by the door. Aiden sucked in a breath and sat up as straight as he could. The man closed the door and focused his gaze on Aiden. Aiden, still holding his breath looked away. The man brought a chair over to the bed and sat by Aiden.

It was quiet for a moment and then the man spoke, “Do you know why you’re here?”

Aiden shot up and he looked over at the man. He continued to hold his breath and didn’t answer. The man sighed and stood up again, walking back to the door.

“W-Wait!” Aiden shouted before his eyes widened and he looked down.

The man looked over his shoulder and stopped what he was doing. He stood there for a minutes, as if waiting for Aiden to say more.

Aiden began to wrack his brain trying to figure out what he was going to say next. The man continued his movements and turned the doorknob.

“I’m Aiden. Um, it’s ok if I stay here right?”

The man looked over his shoulder again and nodded before leaving the room. Aiden plopped down on the bed and looked at the ceiling. He let out his breath and tried to steady his breathing. Why was that so impossible? There was no reason why he should be scared…right? He closed his eyes and willed himself to sleep, trying to forget about everything for now and just get some rest.
