Dear DadA Poem by ScaredSilent
Dear Father
Your hands Are the memories of field workers Those with split nails and broken souls Those with sun roughened skin And smiling eyes I associate you with the summer sun And the smell of cut grass I see winter in your posture Tired and sunken I can't help but smell The artificial heat of a plow truck Some of the best meals I’ve had Were warmed down by my bare feet And eaten to the rocking motion of the plow blade The best lesson you taught me Was the hard work Makes for a beautiful life There are so many bad things That make our world dirty And vain Yet when I saw your ever so rare smile I knew that those things were only a small part Of the wonderful world of the woods Fishing and camping became I love yous and hugs I still can't gut a fish Or attach a hook to my line without a swivel But because of you I can light a fire That could change the world You never told me That it was strange for me to love my brother As much as i do Because of you I know that i am strong enough To overcome the obstacles of my own mind I find solace in the wind And still fall asleep To the sound of your truck starting Because of you I know that I can do anything You made a new world for me Down the little road In that little apartment In that really big town So thank you Dad for being the superhero I need © 2018 ScaredSilent |
