Hammer And Strike

Hammer And Strike

A Poem by Scott Lee

Words pound Bang!

Then continue to hammer and strike me

Silent page jungles spin-drift round my eyes

But what are they trying to build

  A bridge to another world?

An elusive mansion in my psyche

A dark cage for my freedom

Freedom from my cage?

Nails slash through my head

And gives screams to wild rage

Hammer    hammer    pound

Slamming hammer strikes

Kill me with your steel

Free me from your cage….

Thunder Crashing War

  Pages bleed like soldiers

Soldiers crawl through tall weeds

Moon-less  night   staggering blind

fall back into shadows blacker

Tell me   save me   tell me

Do I ride forever on cold breath through blackened night?

Do I bleed severed crawling near death through another field of Tall weeds?

Hammer   Fire   Hammer      fire     strike

 blasters   blasting closer

Dark body dashing   faster

 Wounded, running

Through great slamming hammers

Combat          grenades

and

Bullet ripping fire

Jungles sweating blood

Dead friends lingering close

No time to think back yet.

Move   duck    trigger- fire      flee

Onward    soldier   Fight!!

Sinking down and rising up

Hammer strike   dig in     dig out

Fall in      fall out

Breathe dust     breathe blood     breathe loss

Try and forget about dead friends   2 clicks back

Forget about welling tears spilling from red cheeks

Ocean blood staining tall weeds

Love made from long vines criss-cross forever inside a jungle’s heart

“Remember your rifle, don’t stop fighting, its not suppose to be fun.”

Deadly bunkers spitting bullet ripping fire

Mowing down front lines   dropping faster than flies

Battle smoke         fear rage         blood death fire

Moon-less night staggering blind back into shadows blacker

Tell me    save me   tell me

“Do I fight forever on cold breath bleeding severed, crawling almost dead through Tall Weed blazes?”

Bullet fire ripping above my head

Will I ever hear that gentle Voice?

Will I ever know a peaceful world shining new again?

Clambering blind back into shadows blacker

Wounded, retreating

 slinking past dead brothers

Squad scattered, alone, my cold war getting colder, blacker

Bleeding severed almost dead with bullet fire ripping through Tall Weeds…

Lay Down      crawl      don’t panic     crawl     crawl     faster    faster   faster

Crawl   crawl   crawl

Every vicious second steals another breath

Every vicious     shadow dragging   mountain moving   blood pounding moment

Feels closer to falling death

This Is War!!!

Go Go Go

Retreat into trees, deaf, shot, and now bleeding more

Lay down, take shelter, rest now  soldier

You can’t ignore words pounding behind smoke screens

Hammer and strike

Through dark cages

Save me

My words don’t fit on paper

Tell me

When will my heart stop falling, stop pounding, stop screaming War?

I’m seeking transfers across long bridges

Dawn light reaching closer

Staggering visible back to peace

Still engaged with battle shock

Barely breathing   limping through forest trees

Tight vines smothering my vision like a final blast of memories

Blood   Death  Fire

Onward soldier March

Onward soldier limp

Onward soldier crawl

Back to Homeland protest

Back to junk yard roads

Back to machines and useless rules

Still, nothing is sensible when freedom lies

Everything still burns

Clashes

Roars

Inside a vast spin-drift jungle heart,

 Raging fires blooming

Tall and wide

Throughout

All the warring world

Still his questions linger

As his mind falls back

Hammer and strike

Through

Moon-less night staggering blind blind

Blinder

 falling back into shadows blacker

Do I ride forever on cold breath bleeding severed rushing fast past tall weed fire?

Will I ever hear that Gentle voice whisper?

Will I ever know a peaceful world shining new again?

I like how this starts out with the imagery alluding to writing, (such as how writing is often like waging a war) but it delves into some deep and rich imagery. I really enjoyed reading this and envisioning your ideas. Nicely done!
