DOWN FOR THE COUNTA Poem by SusanBDOWN FOR THE COUNT Dancing from side to side in life's ring your strength is weakened by every swing Think you have it together it's not the same fooled once again your the one he blames learning to trust again will your heart ever be sure hoping when your done you will feel more secure Is it love or the sparing causing your heart pain A time out is necessary so you'll be able to contain making headway recovering and gaining your strength start to trust your heart, keeping the game at arm's length feeling more confident, you then let down your guard forgetting who you are, hit again opening up the scares picking yourself off the ground and wiping away the tears back in the ring, "it's not about winning" the ref declares he can't stop swinging never wanting to loose a fight his blinders are on, wanting to always be right As she goes down for the last time unable to stand the referee starts to count offering her his hand he stands there tall one foot on her holding her down the hit was so hard, no strength to get off the ground walking away with confidence, so he thought to some he was a winner, but he was distraught he never saw that she was always on his team didn't take the time to understand her it seemed he never seemed to listen, now she's no longer here her words are ringing, he can hear them everywhere It's sad that her words are worth more now that she is gone He swung for the last time and now he can't seem to move on SUSAN LEACH DECEMBER 2010 © 2010 SusanB |
