GUARDED

Guarded, not allowing anyone in

holding back, where do you begin

the pain engraved deep in your heart

broken in pieces, feeling torn apart

wishing now you could turn back the clock

remembering the time love tried to knock

guarded, you believed what was engraved

allowing your thoughts, the path was paved

if only you could of seen what was ahead

trusting your heart, not what others said

life took turns some happy some sad

living in fear, unsure, always scared

no longer guarded hoping to be loved

never finding it, only to be shoved

giving your word,  there was no way out

not trusting yourself, causing you to doubt

wondering who you become, feeling so numb

thoughts had no meaning, told you were dumb

time went on,  things grew increasingly worse

learned what to say, your words were rehearsed

loneliness and fear engulfed your heart

would love knock  again or tear you apart

unsure with life, never feeling secure 

looking back when your heart was pure

never satisfied the appetite for love

seeking after, but nothing to speak of

returning back to that familiar place

hoping for love forever  embraced

so guarded, allowing no one in

confused not knowing where to begin

your heart wants to trust in love one day

your guard is down can't trust what they say

take a moment  to open up  your eyes

as you heal, your heart will become wise

know who you are and what you can do

love will show up and you'll know it's true
