The Faerie and the Dragon - Parts I and II

The Faerie and the Dragon - Parts I and II

T'was a startling story, quite bizarre,
of the Faerie and the Dragon, written thus far.
Two separate worlds, like the distant stars;
the sea and the sky, impossibly afar...

It seems dear Fate ordained to overrule
that which otherwise would have been too cruel.
These forlorn souls, by life misaligned...
now at last, by Grace, have been combined.

To think a beast with scales and fangs
could find the strength to love again.
From the gentle touch of a winged mate
he found the words that he'd thought far too late.

Now, every sleepless, churning evening
was wasted not on delving failure's meaning.
Rather, what the future may someday bring.
From a dried-up well, the Faerie made a spring.

Alas, tonight, the tale must end--
though don't think we've reached its conclusion, friend!
These two threads may be together spun,
but all I've told you is Chapter One.

Our tale renews with another view
within the world of these darling two.
'long a gnarled path, their hearts dared tread,
headlong towards whatever lie ahead.

The Sky, it seemed, sought to keep its prize;
the Faerie disappeared before his very eyes.
Despite his best attempts, his fears were realized...
The Dragon couldn't fly, no matter how hard he tried.

From the highest cliff, he jumped into the clouds,
desperate for a glimpse beyond that pearly shroud.
...only to fall, again, into the ocean.
Once more he was alone with his desolation.

The Dragon begged upon those roiling seas,
for another chance at Her heart to seize.
Without Her, the Sky had cut him at the knees
and it had, so suddenly, grown so hard to breathe...

He stared into the Sky that night,
searching everywhere for that familiar light.
If Fate could enthrall them from a distance so long...
perhaps It would still listen to his woeful song.

Author's Note

Sazaku
Vent poetry. Reader beware.

This is the kinda stuff I haven't been posting lately. Just writing and tossing it somewhere. I finally finished one, I guess. Doesn't particularly feel that satisfying.

Also, for anyone curious; yes, it's an allusion to the mythological tale of the same name.
