Remember Myself (The Traveler's Tale)

Remember Myself (The Traveler's Tale)

A Poem by Sazaku

Hello, my passing traveler,
I pray the season finds you well.
I'll make this stay with me brief-
lest I delay you in this hell.

It's tough to put to words
how it feels to lose a war.
I've struggled my entire life,
but it always seems He wants it more.

Somehow it just feels
no matter how close I get
to that unattainable peak
it's a little further yet.

The mist I used to fight
has become a heavy frost;
too hard for this broken mind
to keep from getting lost.

Sick they try to say,
you will get better some day.
An answer is all too much to ask,
though it's all I could want today.

Why is my body fighting itself?
It's a struggle just to take a breath.
Weeks ago, I could walk for miles,
now it'd surely be my death.

So now I sit here, bereft of much
of what defined my former self.
It's not poetry these fingers touch,
I'm just trying to remember myself.
