Confessions of a Revenant

Confessions of a Revenant

A Poem by Sazaku
"

"
There's a shadow on the wall,
longer than I am tall.
Just over my shoulder;
your warmth has gotten colder.

It finds me in the dark;
runs each time I look.
Wish that I could find you
so the pain could be revoked.

***

Somber August sun,
the colors have started to run.
Drunk on drafts of self-loathing,
deadened by the music blaring,
til the words no longer sting.

Haunting amber moon,
her gentle, lonely tune.
Lullaby for my wicked heart
echoes from her starry rampart.
Together yet forever apart.

***

There's a shadow on the wall,
longer than I am tall.
Name forever on my lips
yet just beyond my fingertips.

Sleep was where I'd find
the light of mine that used to shine.
But now I've come to realize
there's only darkness before my eyes.

***

Even now I lay here
praying that I might hear
the voice I used to hold dear
and one day I'll be free
of this silent misery.

But it's just me here
and no amount of tears
will erase the words seared
in the front of my mind.
Bright enough to leave me blind.

***

There's a shadow on the wall,
longer than I am tall.
Whispers from a lifetime past
and a promise made that was meant to last.

Specter in my head
fills the space inside my bed.
Once upon a time I believed
but now I fear it's only grief.

Author's Note

Sazaku
I have a confession to make. I feel I've been disingenuous with my writing in the past - pulling punches and toning down my work in the hopes of making it sound nice or read nice. Sunshine and roses among even some of my more bleaker pieces.

I'm done with it. From here out, I'm bringing the house with every word. If you find certain topics heavy or uncomfortable, you might want to reconsider me as your reading material. I feel like I've cheated myself and my readers from the experiences they deserve. If you're investing your time in my work, I'm going to give you MY work, not the abridged version.

I liked the above lines. Real life and direct. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Writers "comfort the disturbed and disturb the comforted." I, too, write dark stuff or sarcastic stuffs once in awhile and I'm glad you're finding your style of writing. :D
