Confessions of a RevenantA Poem by SazakuThere's a shadow on the wall, longer than I am tall. Just over my shoulder; your warmth has gotten colder. It finds me in the dark; runs each time I look. Wish that I could find you so the pain could be revoked. *** Somber August sun, the colors have started to run. Drunk on drafts of self-loathing, deadened by the music blaring, til the words no longer sting. Haunting amber moon, her gentle, lonely tune. Lullaby for my wicked heart echoes from her starry rampart. Together yet forever apart. *** There's a shadow on the wall, longer than I am tall. Name forever on my lips yet just beyond my fingertips. Sleep was where I'd find the light of mine that used to shine. But now I've come to realize there's only darkness before my eyes. *** Even now I lay here praying that I might hear the voice I used to hold dear and one day I'll be free of this silent misery. But it's just me here and no amount of tears will erase the words seared in the front of my mind. Bright enough to leave me blind. *** There's a shadow on the wall, longer than I am tall. Whispers from a lifetime past and a promise made that was meant to last. Specter in my head fills the space inside my bed. Once upon a time I believed but now I fear it's only grief.
