Childhood

Childhood

A Poem by SavyNess
"

Growing older and more distant

"
Each year; another grade and another inch taller

Each friend; another secret and memory with one another

Falling off the swing used to be the harshest cut we could endure

Dropping friends daily, for no reason, growing up the problem's core

So many dreams I wanted to watch be pursued
On this journey, my peers I wanted to include

a plethora of faces I wanted to watch mature
but our paths ventured a detour

Sleepovers became lunch dates
Movie nights became double dates
discussing our favorite character to favorite boy; at any rate
from missing each other, to missing a man in any state
Sharing dolls to sharing guys
Encouraging dares to encouraging highs

It all happened so fast, and it will continue to so save your sass
They come & they go, smile on & show them your class

A nice rite of passage poem, although mine occurred many, many years before yours did. A lot of the feelings and emotional connections were the same 40 years ago as they are now. This write took me on a nice leisurely stroll down memory lane, and I thank you for that. take care...riki
