Smoke and PerfumeA Poem by SavannahSecond "Cigarette & Perfume" contest entry.
She strolled into the room Smelling of smoke and cheap perfume Her fingernails were free of dirt Her skirt was just a hair too short For anyone to really think Of her or take her seriously Each man she passed: their eyes glued to her Each woman she walked by thought they knew her “Oh there’s just another s**t,” they thought, “Girl, keep your legs shut.” She stepped outside and flicked an ash Into a male admirer’s path Intimidated, yet he approached her Otherwise he’d never have known her: Known she was the sweetest girl In the whole entire world And because of the way she smelled and dressed She made the other girls depressed The ones she gave a second glance Were the ones happy they’d gotten a chance Because underneath the smoke and perfume There was a heart with lots of room.
