FallingA Poem by Savannah Giovannafalling in love. what is it really? everyone claims that They call it “falling” because that is exactly what it feels like; falling. but I would not describe this wonderfully painful sensation using the word “falling”; not quite. it is flailing aimlessly into oblivion, drowning in the unknown, crumpling under the weight of vulnerability. it is shrinking into a shell of fear, flying fast into the dark, sprinting straight into a never ending tunnel. so, They should call it all of those things. flailing, drowning, crumpling, shrinking, flying, sprinting, all in love. so no, it is not that simple. I really, really wish it felt like falling. I wish it felt like the soft fall of your head onto a silky pillow. I wish it felt like the short fall of a child onto a trampoline. I wish it felt like the sure fall of an acrobat onto a safety net. but it does not. if it felt like falling at all, it feels like falling into a mysterious body of water; then never coming back up for air. like falling into space with the stars and planets and comets and meteors; then getting sucked into a black hole. like falling into the sky with feathery clouds and light winds and birds; then finding yourself stuck in a storm. a complete, final, and definite decision to fall and never come back. to fall not in love with the person, but with the perfection and beauty and goodness that sometimes is just as temporary as the fall itself. © 2018 Savannah GiovannaFeatured Review
