Chapter 2A Chapter by Savanah WagermanWhen Kyle told me what happened my heart sunk. I couldn't believe this was happening. When we arrived at the hospital it didn’t seem real. I remember the first time I laid my eyes on her, my mom, I looked away as fast as I could. I couldn’t look at her stiff body; all I kept looking at was the machine that was breathing for her. I wouldn’t even consider her my mom, I mean she didn’t look like my mom at all. Kyle and I arrived at the hospital around four o’clock, but our dad didn’t get there until six-thirty. When Dad got there the doctor came in and Dad told Kyle and I to get some food. I knew he just didn’t want us to hear what the doctor had to say about our mother. Kyle and I got some food and sat in the café. Breaking the silence, “Do you think Mom will be okay?”I asked. “I have no idea. I hope she will be. She’s the only one that keeps this family together, but don’t worry too much everything will be okay. Okay?” Kyle replied to my most dreaded question. After we finished eating we decided to go back to the room. By the time we got back to the room it was almost eight, so I decided to lay down and take a nap. ↠↠↠↠↠↠↠↠ July 4,2013 It’s nine o’clock in the morning and I can hear my parents talking about our plans for tonight as I get ready for the day. Before I know it Mom is calling Kyle and I to come downstairs. This is one of my favorite holidays because of how beautiful it can be and the smell of the smokey hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill. While eating our breakfast Dad started talking about our plans for tonight. He always tries to get the best view of the fireworks for the best experience possible for me and Kyle. After our breakfast he asks us if we want to go to the store with him to get Pop Its and sparklers. As always we go and every year Kyle asks if we can get Bottle Rockets, but every time dad says, “No, you know those crazy things aren’t safe, but go and find firecrackers and Ground Bombs so we can go before we spend too much.” Later on that evening we pack up the food and all go into the truck. This year dad has something special for us. He asked one of his friends that owns a business if we could sit on the roof to see the fireworks. This year we have a clear shot of the fireworks. The best part of tonight wasn’t the fireworks, it was when Mom went to sit down and missed her chair! We were all standing up setting off firecrackers and Mom wanted to sit down. The next thing I knew I hear a boom and I turn around and Mom is on the ground. We all laughed for so long our stomachs started to hurt. After the firework show we went out for ice cream and then went home. On the way home Kyle got an idea that we have a movie night in the backyard. We all agreed on two movies and we made a fire and got our sleeping bags. We all ended up sleeping outside and woke up with either a sore neck or back, but it was worth it.© 2017 Savanah Wagerman |
