No Longer A HomeA Poem by Savannah JohnsonMy mother, this is based on her, it's real.
No Longer A Home
Oxygen ‘whooshing’ into her nose so loud I can hear,
What caused this woman to get where she is
A woman so proud and strong and grand, and now she can barely hold my hand
“This woman can’t speak, she can barely breathe!”
The man says and pulls me away
I can no longer see that woman he holds dear.
His face turns pale when she coughs or groans
His fear is just as mine, his house has become no longer a home.
“This women may soon reach her end, you should not leave her alone until then”
I turn and rush into the purple room, I cannot stand to hear her
I need this woman’s pain to stop,
For she is my mother
and without her I fear my life, too will come to it’s end.
She tells me to be strong
But she knows by the fear in my father’s eyes,
Without her we are evermore alone.
Without her our house is no longer a home.
