Songs of the Wild

Songs of the Wild

A Poem by Anastasia Harper
"

An Original Poem by Anastasia E. Harper Inspired by my beautiful college campus.

"
The river sings to me an enchanting siren song.
It draws me in like a simple-minded moth to a flame
away from the draconian grasp of a cruel society
from which all weeping originates;
where all tears are the same.
Come and rest under this oak tree, it whispers.
Sing your song to me and forget,
for just a moment, that you are human.

The birds sing to me a majestic hymn of freedom.
It enthralls me like a child with a toy
who is ignorant to the cold reality of the world around him
instead choosing to live a state of blissful, innocent joy.
Come here and sing with us, they cry.
Dance joyfully and forget,
until your dance ends,
that once you were a prisoner.

The wisteria sings to me a mesmerizing chorale of beauty.
It lures me in like a painter seeking inspiration
and desperately trying to stoke the flames of creativity,
searching for elegance in the flame's simplicity.
Come sit with us, the beckoning blossoms say.
Write your song without fear and forget,
until your song is completed,
that you thought you could not sing.

The wilderness sings to me a song so simple and clear
that anyone with an open mind can listen and truly hear.
It summons me into its arms like a mother to a child.
I forget myself completely, even my name, for awhile.
Come to me and tell me who you really are
and sing to me your story.
Forget the person you used to be;
your story is now history.
