FEAR

FEAR

A Poem by Dark Priestess

Ice-cold hands

Glistening with beads of sweat

Time seems to stand still

For you

Rapid staccato beats of the heart

As it thumps against its red walls

Like an unknown prisoner

Dying to be let out

Frozen fear

Numb shock

As the world ceases to be

In every corner there's a spear

Hunting relentlessly

Vague flashes of previous warnings

Float through your hazy mind

Misty recollection of sage advice

Swim around in your head again

As you fight not to surrender

And never to fall

 Holding fast to reality

And to the ground below

Then

There is a blinding light

And a rope up above

And you hold on with all your might

Grasping, reaching, pulling

Out of the quicksand

Leaving the danger behind

Rising from the pool of fear

Running from total despair

Ascending from below to above

The feeling of being protected and shielded

Overcomes every last drop of fear
