Insomnia

Insomnia

A Poem by Katie Lynn
"

Hallucinations of Adventure

"
A thousand white-hot burning suns,
Explode above my head,
It is no curse, but is a gift,
Of lonesome nights ahead.

The ceiling melts away from view,
Exposing stars so bright,
Leaving behind a rainbow ghost,
Of shimmering spectral light.

The blazing comets trace their paths,
Across the open sky,
And as they crash I lie in bed,
And watch them brightly die.

Ancient oaks spring from the earth,
Reaching their limbs to me,
Their linen leaves rustle about,
As floor gives way to sea.

I roll and rock upon the waves,
I’m cast this way and that,
Passing glistening sea creatures,
Beneath my pirate hat.

An earthquake shakes the salty sea,
And stars fall down like rain,
The neon sea of wistful sleep,
Soon takes me down again.

I lie inside that silent room,
Draped with shining fireflies,
The ceiling opened to the moon,
She looks at me and sighs.

I close my eyes but still I see,
My waking dream goes on,
Trapped within this breathless beauty,
Until my night is dawn.

Author's Note

Katie Lynn
I have a small problem with insomnia and I recently had it hit me again, quite hard. The next morning I decided to write about what I saw in my delusional stage when I was hallucinating from being so exhausted. It was scary, but it was beautiful. I hope you like it. :)

Very imaginative, you take the reader on your rocky ride through the night hours of wakefulness. But is it a hallucination, or is it dream? Perhaps you dream that you're awake, and these visions become real to you when you awake. Well written, and compulsive reading.

Wow, the imagery in this is simply OUT OF THIS WORLD! I can kind of relate, I have some really scary hallucinations when I wake up from a dream and it scares the crap out of me! But to me, it's such an interesting psychological experience. Your poem is def thought provoking and I love that it comes from personal experience. Great work!
