The Phoenix and the Dragon

The Phoenix and the Dragon

A Poem by Katie Lynn
"

She cannot hide from her love, her Long, She sings to him her Siren's song.

"

The bird shall rise with morning light,

And shall set too, with the sun at night,

For every life of five hundred years,

She has cried a million more tears.

She hides away, don’t look, don’t search,

She watches from her willow perch,

She flies so swift along the coast,

But sleeps within the lighthouse post.

She’s landed on many a distant shore,

She’s cursed to fly forever more.

But Yang will seek the love of Yin,

A love that's fragile, paper thin.

The bird, she suffers her life’s plight,

She spreads her wings in final flight.

She cannot hide from her love, her Long,

She sings to him her Siren’s Song.

He shall come, drawn quickly in,

The heir of Dragon blood and kin.

He travels to the Phoenix nest,

Where she dies, he too, can rest.

Born again in a lover’s ash,

                Enveloped in a fiery flash,

A phoenix sweet, a dragon bold,

To each other, they will hold,

Ancient is their affinity,

A love that lasts for eternity!

Author's Note

Katie Lynn
This is basically based off of Chinese mythology in that the phoenix bird is seen as a female entity and her counterpart (in some cases, lover) is the dragon. They both represent Yin and Yang. Hope you enjoy. :)

I'm amazed, Katie Lynn, a Chinese one from you. Marvellous! The Chinese name for a dragon is 'Long', as you have stated, but pronounced more like 'Lung'. This doesn't detract from your poem, however. That last line should read - 'A love that lasts (for) eternity. Great stuff.
