Molly and the ReindeerA Poem by Katie LynnA Christmas story in the form of a poem.
Molly bakes the cookies with a smile on her face,
And claps her hands in giddy surprise, When the oven dings and the treats are ready, Smelling better than her mother's pies. She places a platter down on the table, Full of cookies and milk, And leaves to her bedroom and covers her head, With her sheets made of satin and silk. Molly says to herself, "Oh Santa, please, I've been a good girl this year, If it's not too much trouble, Please come on the double, And allow me to pet your reindeer." She closes her eyes and lays her head down, Slipping off into a world of dreams, Where lollipops frolic with gingerbread men, And nothing is quite what it seems. In her dreams, there's a ring, A sound sharp and clear, So she opens her eyes, To the sound in her ear. She climbs out of bed heading for the door, Wondering what on Earth it could be, And she spies a round figure crouching below, The sparkling lights on her Christmas tree. He turns around, not saying a word, And grabs her and with a poof, She blinks her eyes, only to find, Them standing upon her roof. Looking around, she sees them there, Standing all in a line, One by itself and two by two, The One's nose a glowing sign. She looked at the man as he nodded a yes, And smiled a wide, bright smile, He pushed her gently towards the sleigh, Those few feet seeming a mile. Molly reached out her delicate hand, Towards the great reindeer, It welcomed her touch openly, Drawing ever near. She patted its head, And stroked its side, Then looked at Santa, Asked, "Can I ride?" They swept her away, Off into the night, But returned her home, Before morning light. She thanked him so much, He just patted her head, And gave her a bell, And sent her to bed. © 2016 Katie LynnAuthor's Note
