The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse

A Poem by Katie Lynn
"

For the most caring and loving man this world has ever seen. My Grandfather.

"

There is a grand old lighthouse

Standing strong upon the shore

And even in the darkest night,

You'll see its glowing core.

Against the waves and wind and rain,

For 85 years it stood

Battered by nature and circumstance,

For the longest that it could.

Its tender light reached so far out

Into the distant sky,

And touched the hearts of many people

And my family and I.

Once in a lifetime you may see

A loving light so pure,

A light so great and wonderful,

A light that still endures.

You see, the house has disappeared,

Only the Light remains,

But this light cannot be snuffed,

It never dies or wanes.

It lives forever in all our hearts,

Though we didn't see it planned,

The light house rests with Jesus now...

My Lighthouse shook his hand.

Author's Note

Katie Lynn
This is dedicated to my wonderful grandfather, who passed away October 8th, 2012. I will read this at his funeral.

He was loved by everyone who met him and was one of the kindest people I've ever known. He had a heart of gold and he wasn't a fool. He was very wise and he always had stories to tell me when I was growing up. One of his most interesting characteristics was his obvious love for lighthouses, something I will never forget. Several weeks before his death, he woke up one morning and said to my grandmother, "I can't wait to shake Jesus's hand." He finally got his wish. I love him with all my heart and he will be more missed than he will ever know.

You are such a beautiful soul ..... I felt your love to him with every word , I am sure he will smile from above while you read it knowing he left a wonderful woman behind to follow up with his golden heart ... I know you for a very short time , but your Inner Joy is rare ... acceptance and happiness that you hardly find anymore x

A great tribute to a man who was obviously well loved. He will be smiling down at you for this, Katie.

Thank you!
Exceptional. I know he is thankful to have such a loving family. I know he is up there just a bragging on how wonderful of a woman his granddaughter has become. Now he will live ever on through your works, touching the lives of many more to come.
