On The Subject Of Pain

On The Subject Of Pain

A Poem by Stacy Purvis

On The Subject Of Pain

I'm Suffocating, Can't Catch My Breath
Slowly Spiraling, Circling Death.
Here's where we say 'goodbye' my friend
We were tragic lovers to the bitter end
But Tears we cried weren't in vain
They were lessons we learned on the subject of pain.
Tears are Fallin'
Can't stop the Rain (from Fallin')
Tears are Fallin'
There's just no getting over you,
No one else will ever do.
Did we Lie too much, Love too little?
Shattered dreams, fragile, brittle.
Everything's temporary, including broken hearts
Beginnings, Endings, Finish Lines, Starts.
But Tears we cried weren't in vain
They were lessons we learned on the subject of pain.
Tears are Fallin'
Can't stop the Rain (from Fallin')
Tears are Fallin'
Theres just no getting over you,
No one else will ever do.
Forehead Kisses,
Tattoos, Holding hands
Roses, and Zippers, too
Tuck me in Forever with you...
The Sky's not fallin' and We're Still Alive
Can we forget the Past
And Give it One more Try?
'Cuz tears are Fallin'
Can't stop the Rain (from Fallin')
Tears are Fallin'
There's just no getting over you,
No one else will ever do.
Turn off the Light, Come take my hand
Look in my eyes, you'll understand
Forget the Promises we once made,
Because Tears we cried were never in vain
They were lessons we learned on the subject of pain.
And you can't have Sunshine without a little Rain...
No, the lessons we learned weren't in vain.
Tears are Fallin'
Can't stop the Rain (from Fallin')
Tears are Fallin'
My fragile heart's been black and blue
'Cuz there's just no getting over you.

stunning art work! those street artists are absolutely brilliant when they are good at it ... your poem triggered multiple old songs of love and hurt and making up .. you put me in a quiet moment of thoughtfulness ... early morning coffee running through a relationship .. while she is perhaps still asleep .. love has so many ups and downs and false starts and dead ends ... but also morning breakfast, bacon and eggs, genuine laughter and comfort ... acceptance without pretense ... love these lines especially:

A amazing poem. Had the feel of a song. You made the reader believe in the pain and the need. Nice flow of thoughts led to perfect ending. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Very sad poem about lost love, or is it reciprocated love with her imagining a romance that never existed?
But either way, you have some fun creativity in the various ways you describe her romance and the small details of her obsession.
Keep it up! :)

It feels somewhat ambiguous in parts due to it being a single person's narrative, nobody else chimes.. read more

Haha well thank you, that's very nice of you to say.
A scripted piece almost, ever dividing and without cause, well done, good read.

Not sure of the key or the tempo...maybe a slow bluesy thing in E would capture the hurt perfectly. Well written...definitely a song to be sung on a lonely night.

A good write Stacy
