Fields Of Wheat And A DayA Poem by Stacy PurvisWe hold hands and run through the rolling fields of green, Then watch the wind blow through the waist-high wheat. Above us, the sun shines bright, each ray breaks through, Gossamer, whimsical clouds, the sky reflects a clear blue hue. Carve our initials in the oak near the creek, Sit on the bridge and dangle our feet. The birds fly overhead, their songs echo by and by. Only the gods and creation can observe their cry. Saunter along a little further, you tell me stories of better days, I get lost in the color of your eyes, your smile, and your gaze. Feel the warmth of the sun as each golden ray continues searing, And we arrive at our blanket by a tree in a clearing. The shadow and shade of that glorious beast, Brings a sigh from the both of us as soon we feast. A picnic lunch made just for us two, And then a serenade, a song from you. Your beautiful voice, the strum of your guitar, Humming lingers in the air to be carried afar. Not a thing can interrupt our day, Not a phone, no cars, and no one in our way. We lie closely on a blanket and stare at the sky, While tender words exchange between you and I. In those fields of wheat and in our hearts to stay, A bond of affection was born that day. Then suddenly, a crack of thunder from a storm, And sadly I awake to find that it’s morn. © 2017 Stacy PurvisFeatured Review
