ProlougeA Chapter by Sassafrax
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Of Adam's first wife, Lilith, it is told
(The witch he loved before the gift of Eve,) That, ere the snake's, her sweet tongue could deceive, And her enchanted hair was the first gold. - Lilith, Daniel Rossetti

Hillsville Report
Hillsville Hospital Blackout
Caused by What?
On March 24, a huge, wild storm hits the Chicago area, sweeping hundreds of suburbs, apartments, and of course, hospitals. Yet none of these building have reported even the smallest power outage. Then how did the hospital of Hillsville’s power just blew? Tom Burnside, twenty year janitor at Hillsville Hospital, reported that the blackout had lasted for five minutes straight.
“That was odd; it was like, exactly five minutes.” Says the bewildered man.
Authorities have gone to the scene the day after but found no place where someone could have sabotaged the power, or where the storm could’ve hit it.
“But I mean, that was a big storm. Probably just knocked out some power, that’s all,” says hospital manager, Andrew Kurt. But really? Many people in the hospital at the time called to witness that not even the parking lot lights were touched. Only the hospital. Manager Kurt told us before that the circuits that connected to the light out in the parking lot are also connected to most of the hospital lights. So if someone or the storm hit the hospital, it would have hit every little light bulb in the hospital, rather than a simple power line or the hospital generator.
“It is just so weird,” says Burnside, finishing our report.

Dog Chow,
Of all the days to give birth, Val chose the 24th! You probably heard about it in the news. I swear, the rain was pouring man, like the Almighty was pouring a jug of water over us. Well, anyway, it was a girl and Valerie wanted to name it – you guessed it – Dawn, after her hippie mother of the 70s. So, we basically spent the entire time in the hospital arguing about what the kid’s name is going to be. So Val finally gave up the option, Dawn, but told be it had to rhyme with our last name.
You probably don’t know, but, there was this blackout at the hospital right after Val gave birth. And I, yeah, macho, you know, took care of it. You know, like calmed everyone down. Yeah.
Ok, so in the end, we named her Summer. She’s got green eyes like the leaves of that oak tree in our lawn we used to climb, when we got her back, there was hair already. It was this sort of reddish tawny. Never seen anything like it. But I reckon it’ll turn brown or something in the end.
Your wife’s a doctor right? Can you ask her something? There was this thing I noticed at the hospital. Just something, I mean, I could’ve been imagining it. Is it possible for the pupils of a newborn’s be larger or a lot smaller than average? Because, when she was born, her eyes were open, and I swear, it was completely white with maybe a dot in the center. Just asking, could’ve been her eyes was rolled up.
Hey, our new address is at Grain Avenue, 60648, if you want to see her. We’ve got a crib for her and the nursery’s done, and she’s got these such rosy and soft cheeks. This all sounds so cheesy if you read ‘em, but this is how I feel. I am just so proud I’m a father.
