Loosen

Loosen

A Poem by Sasha Cohen

I met my sorrow on a walk one day

He tipped his hat and said hello

His hard eyes of stone set on me

Leaning against a tree

We spoke and exchanged jokes

Laughed and cried

But when it was time to go

He said to not miss him

For he would be returning soon

And soon he did come

Bringing with him memories

Though it was not pleasant, I was happy to see my old friend

We rekindled our fires and spoke and joked some more

But when it was time to go

He made his departure very clear to me

Made sure I knew he’d be gone for a while

I’d see him few times after that

He’d visit occasionally

But only for a short time

And after a while his visits became fewer and fewer

Until weeks turned to months

But I met my sorrow on a walk one day

He seemed different somehow

His stone eyes softer

He said goodbye

Loosened

Walked away

Into the fields of peace
