Song in the night

Song in the night

A Poem by Sarura
"

When you want nothing more than the one you love by your side, tired and tried, sleep don't come easy.

"
Not even the most serene lullaby can hum you to dream land
when tonight just hasn't felt right,

Not even the most decadent cheeses can get you to eat them
when heart and mind collide,

Not even the messiah can get you to believe him
when you're feeling weakest"

At least not this time,
not even on this peaceful night,
and all the others.

So you sit in the dark, your head aches, your stomach churns, your mind wanders and your heart reminds you
to turn on the light, even though it's four in the morning,
hoping to find what you're looking for.

And you can guess, correctly, who's not knocking on your door
but you open it anyway,

To feel the wind, let it pick a piece of you up, and carry it away. The wind will keep you safe.

It'll turn you into music, that,
just outside of town,
two lovers will play.

He's 68, she's 67,
they've been partners since they were eleven.

And in that moment you will love them more than you love yourself,
And you wish them the best"
You'll be glad to get that off your chest.

And you'll wonder why they're still awake.
If only you knew, they are singing for you.

And even if they personally told you,
you probably wouldn't believe it to be true"
That would be too much a romantic thing to do.

At least that's what you think now.
