Walls

Walls

A Poem by Anna

Hidden behind my walls of sarcasm and self-hate

I sit here and deny you access to my feelings.

Time and time again I want to confess my love

but instead say something spiteful.

These walls I have built are meant to protect me

and to tear anyone down who tries to break through.

A simple breach could ruin me

and break my heart at the same time.

Thoughts, tears, and memories these walls hide

don’t ask to see them you will only be denied.

Once you break through the walls

you must listen closely because it will only happen once.

The horrors I have faced

and my feelings for you are unleashed.

Do not judge or tell a soul

for these are secrets guarded by my soul.

Whether I love you with all my heart

or hate you with a passion.

You must accept this because

you have broken my walls.

Once the damage has been done

the walls seal themselves up and you are kicked out.

The walls will learn and strengthen from this attack

to only be broken down once again by those I love.
