This life inside of me.

19, drug addict, single and pregnant - time to change! This poem was the beginning of a new and exciting chapter to my life 15 years ago.

My belly is swollen
A baby inside
I have so many problems
And nowhere to hide
I feel so young
Yet so tired
Another day off
Ill get fired!
Im upside down
And inside out
Ill be ok
I mustn't shout
My child inside
Tiny yet complete
Little hands
Little feet
Completely dependant
On no one but me
My child will be loved
For eternity.

In a way. Swoo, you are a walking, talking hero. Most people shrug off their past as if it taught them nothing, you dear lady, have shown what has turned your life around.. you can never look back. I am familiar with the struggles of maternity; having children of my own. The last one I helped deliver into this world. I could only make my wife as comfortable as possible; ease her fears by remaining calm and be her strong shoulder to lean on. The birth makes all efforts seem as nothing and even the pain vanishes into utter joy. My wife was a smoker for years but quit (thank God) for the sake of our child. I'm happy you made the right decision. Bless.

My child is now 22!
The more recent poems I have written have focussed on the recent trauma I’ve experienced by rekindling my relationship with his father 15 years after his birth! 7 years on and he has walked out on us for a second time… I’m now trying to move on to poems of hope and new dawns!

Oh my...well, better to be away from him..it seems..
I too submitted a few of my poems from when I was young..Screams.. which I wrote in the early 70's..and Hope..
Now I am on to my adventure with Sonnets and new poems..
