The One I Left Behind

The One I Left Behind

A Poem by Sarahthirk

The One I Left Behind

Verse:
You tell me the world stops when I walk up to your door
Your heart skips a beat when your eyes land upon my drawer
How am I supposed to tell you I don't feel any sparks?
I don't wanna run away with your fragile heart

The picture of us is now out of its frame
But I slip it back in once you call my name
I feel so guilty for telling these white lies
Should I save myself or take off this disguise?

Pre-Chorus:
I've gone in too deep
And I am the one to blame
Can't help but weep
Even though I started this game

Chorus:
Staring at an empty wall
Counting down the days
Until I'm not spending every second
Wishing you away
If my tears are raindrops
Then it only pours once you leave
I have to keep my mask on
To preserve your sanity
Who should be in the front of my mind?
You, or me, the one I left behind.

Verse:
When you talk to me I just want to escape
I'm the evil villain with an invisible cape
Never thought I'd evolve into the one who made me cry
But I'll wear the mask as long as you can see the blue sky

Pre-Chorus:
I'll beg for forgiveness
Drop down to my knees
When I tell you it's our last kiss
I won't stop saying "please forgive me"

Chorus:
Staring at an empty wall
Counting down the days
Until I'm not spending every second
Wishing you away
If my tears are raindrops
Then it only pours once you leave
I have to keep my mask on
To preserve your sanity
Who should be in the front of my mind?
You, or me, the one I left behind.

Bridge:
I'm sorry I had to be the one I despise
But since you met me, I see color in your eyes
Don't want that go back to shades of white
Please forgive me, I never wanted this day to turn to night

Chorus:
Staring at an empty wall
Counting down the days
Until I'm not spending every second
Wishing you away
If my tears are raindrops
Then it only pours once you leave
I have to keep my mask on
To preserve your sanity
Who should be in the front of my mind?
You, or me, the one I left behind.

Outro:
Oh I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
Don't wanna leave you like this
Im sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
Don't wanna leave me like this
