Drowned

Drowned

A Poem by Sarahthirk
"

This is a song that describes the thoughts of someone being bullied, how it affects the person, how the person thinks of the bully, etc.

"

Drowned

Verse:

 It's a cold winter night

Out go the lights

I'm hoping for happy dreams

But there's too much in my mind

To fall asleep tonight

The world is crueler than it seems

Haunting me in the hallways

Are the cynics who say

There's nothing I can do

And I try so hard

But I'm a house of cards

And I guess I'm also a fool

Pre-Chorus:

For believing that this scene is gonna end

But if the curtain ever closes, I'll remind them

Chorus:

They made me cower in the streets, they wouldn't let me be me

Constantly shot down

No point in believing, no point in breathing

I was already drowned

They didn't see the scars they left

If they knew, would they even regret it?

Verse:

I can't even fake a smile

The lights been out for a while

Bitter darkness fills the sky

My eyes are filled with tears

They're the reason they are here

And now I'm wondering why

Pre-Chorus:

I'm believing that this scene will stop somehow

And if the curtain ever closes, I'll show them how

Chorus:

They made me cower in the streets, they wouldn't let me be me

Constantly shot down

No point in believing, no point in breathing

 I was already drowned

They didn't see the scars they left

If they knew, would they even regret it?

Bridge:

I'm just a dreamer 'cause I want to smile

One day I don't wanna sit on these tiles

And cry the pain away

I want to take a time machine to brighter days

Verse:

Haunting me in the hallways

Are the cynics who say

There's nothing I can do

And I try so hard

But I'm a house of cards

And I guess I'm also a fool

Pre-Chorus:

For believing that this scene is gonna end

But if the curtain ever closes, I'll remind them

Chorus:

They made me cower in the streets, they wouldn't let me be me

Constantly shot down

No point in believing, no point in breathing

I was already drowned

They didn't see the scars they left

If they knew, would they even regret it? If they knew, would they even regret it?

Review for Change the World Comp
This is very raw and honest, Your line 'If they knew would they even regret it' sums up so much of the poison that contaminates a soul. Often we do not realise the greater impact and affect that our actions have on others. If we were given a summary of the events and emotions each decision of ours would create then I am sure people would not come to conclusions and decisions so quickly. This is a strong emotional write, well done.

Focussing on language and meaning alone, this is great. The message rings out throughout and the tone is so authentic and real, I really feel like what you're writing is heartfelt and genuine. However, i do think this works better as a poem as oppose to a song. That's not a put down, I just think that the message comes trough better wen read as oppose to sung. I tried singing it myself and nothing seemed to quite fit with the lyrics. Regardless of that, you might have a better idea in your head and the words are great :)
