Change

Change

A Poem by Sarah Hale

Mother says I'm different
like somehow I've changed
I continue eating my sandwich
feeling like I always feel
like I've always felt
If I've changed then
I can't figure HOW
I look like I've always looked
at least as far back as I can remember
I like all of the same foods
all the same music
I'm still me
just maybe more so than she remembers
I speak in a moment of irritation
"I guess I'm a little more jaded
but who's fault is that?"
Over the phone I can hear her start to cry....
