Ch.4: Hair Cut
I didn’t sleep very well on the couch. The leather was sticking to my skin awkwardly, it was too cold for my small blanket to keep me warm and I wasn’t use to the environment. By the time I was finally falling asleep, someone turned on the living room light. “Good morning sunshine!” Came Argus’ cheerful and teasing voice. I groaned and pulled the cover over my face. I didn’t want to deal with him. If we were on earth, I’m sure it would be about seven in the morning. I was already curled up from the cold, that Argus had enough room to sit on the end of the couch. Before I knew it he had the TV on some news channel. I growled at him and glared at him as I sat up. He only smiled at me smugly. I took my blanket and pillow and walked out of the living room. It was then that I noticed he wasn’t going to follow me. I might have just woken up, but my mind was working. I could sneak into the bed room and sleep while Argus was awake. I walked into the bed room and stared at the large king sized bed with dark purple covers on it, thick and fluffy enough to engulf me in amazing bliss. I didn’t second guess anything as I flung myself on the bed and dove under the warm covers. The pillows were soft and they smelled nice, so it wasn’t long before I fell asleep. Sadly I didn’t get to sleep long. Argus must have realized something was off when I didn’t bother him for over 30 minutes. I felt the bed move and my heart started to beat in fear and I woke up. What was I thinking getting in his bed! I sat up quickly only to come face to face with an angry Argus glaring at me. “What did I say about the bed room?” He growled at me. I held the covers tightly to my chest, “That it was yours.” “That’s right.” He said sarcastically. “So why are you in here!” I put my head under the covers, I couldn’t stand looking at him, “Because I was tiered and you weren’t in it. I didn’t see any harm in it!” Argus yanked the covers away from me and I stared at him fearfully. “Are you scared of me?” He asked. I didn’t know how to answer so I just stared at him. He sighed. “You don’t have to be scared of me. I’m just a jerk.” He reached out and grabbed a strand of my hair. “I’ll make you a deal: you let me cut your hair, and I’ll let you sleep in the bed.” I yanked my hair away from his grasp and frowned at him. “What?! But my hair is the only thing that makes me look feminine!” Argus rolled his eyes. “Trust me, your feminine. Now, do we have a deal or what?” I held out my hand shyly. “Yes.” He took my hand and yanked me out of the bed and we rushed into the kitchen. “Your cutting it now?!” Argus sat me in the kitchen chair. “Of course, I’m board.” I watched him head over to the kitchen drawer to pull out a pair of scissors. He laid them on the table and went into the bathroom. I watched him come out with a towel and a shaver. “How short are you going to cut my hair!” I began to stand up, getting a little nervous. Argus pushed me back down on the chair. “Sit or I’ll tie you to the chair.” I stayed still as he put the towel around my shoulder. “Have you cut hair before?” “I cut my own hair.” Of course that didn’t make me feel any better. As Argus began cutting my hair I closed my eyes. I didn’t want to see him cutting it. I continued to remind myself that it was worth it because I would get to sleep in the bed tonight, but when he turned on the shaver I wasn’t so sure. The shaver was turned off and Argus took off the towel, “Alright your done, go take a shower.” I nodded and headed off to the shower. The hair that had landed on my face and shirt were bothering me already. I stopped before entering. “Um, Argus, you wouldn’t happen to have any spare clothes would you?” Argus didn’t answer but he did walk into the bed room and got me some clothes that were obviously his. He gave me a small black shirt with a red vampire smiley face on it with some jeans. “That should fit.” He said before walking off to clean up the mess in the living room. I went into the bathroom and locked the door before messing with the shower temperature. The shower was nice, but I couldn’t help but frown every time I ran my fingers through my short hair. Argus had left it long in the front, so my bangs hung near my face, but the back was choppy and short. I turned off the water and stepped out of the shower, I just hopped that it didn’t make me look like a boy. I got dressed and looked in the mirror… “ARGUS!” I screamed before rushing out of the bathroom to find the man. I walked into the living room to see him sitting on the leather couch watching TV. He was trying not to laugh. I stood in front of the TV and glared at him. “What’s wrong sweetie?” He asked as if we were ‘cuddle buddies’. “What’s wrong?” I threw my hands in the air, “I look like a fifteen year old!” “That’s good then! You look younger.” Said Argus happily. “Oh sorry I forgot to mention…A fifteen year old BOY!” Argus stared at me for a bit before saying, “At least the clothes fit.” My lip trembled with frustration and I turned and walked away. I stood in the kitchen with a hand over my face. I had worked hard on growing my hair long… I gasped and looked up suddenly. I remembered! I knew that I had let my hair grow out so that I could look more feminine. It wasn’t much, but it was something. I turned around upon hearing Argus laugh. “I thought it might jog your memory.” He stood with a smug look on his face near the arch way to the living room. I didn’t think when I ran up to him and dicided to hug him. I was just overly happy that I had remembered something on my own. “Thank you.” His arms wrapped and round me and I had a sudden jolt of unknown fear. He leaned forward to press his cheek to mine, I could feel the cold metal of his piercings. “Don’t thank me just yet, little boy.” He kissed me lightly on my cheek, his lips were soft and I could feel his snake bites, then he pulled away with a wicked grin. “W-why not?” He shrugged, “You might not like what you remember.” © 2010 Sarah BarnettAuthor's Note
